Evaluation of the total photoabsorption cross sections for actinides from photofission data and model calculations
We have calculated the fission probabilities for 237-Np, 233,235,238-U,
232-Th, and nat-Pb following the absorption of photons with energies from 68
MeV to 3.77 GeV using the RELDIS Monte-Carlo code. This code implements the
cascade-evaporation-fission model of intermediate-energy photonuclear
reactions. It includes multiparticle production in photoreactions on
intranuclear nucleons, pre-equilibrium emission, and the statistical decay of
excited residual nuclei via competition of evaporation, fission, and
multifragmentation processes. The calculations show that in the GeV energy
region the fission process is not solely responsible for the entire total
photoabsorption cross section, even for the actinides: ~55-70% for 232-Th,
\~70-80% for 238-U, and ~80-95% for 233-U, 235-U, and 237-Np. This is because
certain residual nuclei that are created by deep photospallation at GeV photon
energies have relatively low fission probabilities. Using the recent
experimental data on photofission cross sections for 237-Np and 233,235,238-U
from the Saskatchewan and Jefferson Laboratories and our calculated fission
probabilities, we infer the total photoabsorption cross sections for these four
nuclei. The resulting cross sections per nucleon agree in shape and in
magnitude with each other. However, disagreement in magnitude with
total-photoabsorption cross-section data from previous measurements for nuclei
from C to Pb calls into question the concept of a ``Universal Curve'' for the
photoabsorption cross section per nucleon for all nuclei.Comment: 39 pages including 11 figure
Photon data shed new light upon the GDR spreading width in heavy nuclei
A global study of the electric dipole strength in and below the isovector
giant dipole resonance (GDR) is presented for mass numbers A>80. It relies on
the recently established remarkably good match between data for the nuclear
photo effect to novel photon scattering data covering the region below the
neutron emission threshold as well as by average resonance neutron capture
(ARC). From the wide energy coverage of these data the correlation of the GDR
spreading width with energy can be studied with remarkable accuracy. A clear
sensitivity to details of the nuclear shape, i.e. the beta- and
gamma-deformations, is demonstrated. Based hereon a new parameterization of the
energy dependence of the nuclear electric-dipole strength is proposed which -
with only two new parameters - allows to describe the dipole strength in all
heavy nuclei with A>80. Although it differs significantly from previous
parameterizations it holds for spherical, transitional, triaxial and well
deformed nuclei. The GDR spreading width depends in a regular way on the
respective resonance energy, but it is independent of the photon energy.Comment: accepted by Phys. Lett. B after minor modification
Increase in serum S100B protein level after a swimming
Catalogue Data Abstract/Résumé Physical activity has been shown to be a beneficial stimulus to the central and peripheral nervous systems. The S100B is a cytokine physiologically produced and released predominantly by astrocytes on the central nervous system (CNS). In order to study the possible influence of a nonimpact exercise on S100B serum levels, we measured this protein serum level after a 7,600-meter swimming race. We observed an increase in S100B levels in athletes post-race compared with their baseline values, pointing to a potential acute influence of physical exercise on serum S100B levels not related with CNS injury. We discuss this result and emphasize the possible central and peripheral origins of S100B serum levels. Towards multi-scale dynamics on the baryonic branch of Klebanov-Strassler
We construct explicitly a new class of backgrounds in type-IIB supergravity
which generalize the baryonic branch of Klebanov-Strassler. We apply a
solution-generating technique that, starting from a large class of solutions of
the wrapped-D5 system, yields the new solutions, and then proceed to study in
detail their properties, both in the IR and in the UV. We propose a simple
intuitive field theory interpretation of the rotation procedure and of the
meaning of our new solutions within the Papadopoulos-Tseytlin ansatz, in
particular in relation to the duality cascade in the Klebanov-Strassler
solution. The presence in the field theory of different VEVs for operators of
dimensions 2, 3 and 6 suggests that this is an important step towards the
construction of the string dual of a genuinely multi-scale (strongly coupled)

Search for direct production of charginos and neutralinos in events with three leptons and missing transverse momentum in √s = 7 TeV pp collisions with the ATLAS detector
A search for the direct production of charginos and neutralinos in final states with three electrons or muons and missing transverse momentum is presented. The analysis is based on 4.7 fb−1 of proton–proton collision data delivered by the Large Hadron Collider and recorded with the ATLAS detector. Observations are consistent with Standard Model expectations in three signal regions that are either depleted or enriched in Z-boson decays. Upper limits at 95% confidence level are set in R-parity conserving phenomenological minimal supersymmetric models and in simplified models, significantly extending previous results
Outcome of Allogeneic Transplantation for Mature T-cell Lymphomas: Impact of Donor Source and Disease Characteristics
Mature T-cell lymphomas constitute the most common indication for allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT) of all lymphomas. Large studies evaluating contemporary outcomes of allo-HCT in mature T-cell lymphomas relative to commonly used donor sources are not available. Included in this registry study were adult patients who had undergone allo-HCT for anaplastic large cell lymphoma, angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL), or peripheral T-cell lymphoma not otherwise specified (PTCL-NOS) between 2008 and 2018. Hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) platforms compared were posttransplant cyclophosphamidebased haploidentical (haplo-)HCT, matched sibling donor (MSD) HCT, matched unrelated donor HCT with in vivo T-cell depletion (MUD TCD+), and matched unrelated donor HCT without in vivo T-cell depletion (MUD TCD-). Coprimary end points were overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS); secondary end points included nonrelapse mortality (NRM), and relapse/progression incidence (RI). A total of 1942 patients were eligible (237 haplo-HCT; 911 MSD; 468 MUD TCD+; 326 MUD TCD-). Cohorts were comparable for baseline characteristics with the exception of higher proportions of patients with decreased performance status (PS) and marrow graft recipients in the haplo-HCT group. Using univariate and multivariate comparisons, OS, PFS, RI, and NRM were not significantly different among the haplo-HCT, MSD, MUD TCD+, and MUD TCD- cohorts, with 3-year OS and PFS of 60%, 63%, 59%, and 64%, respectively, and 50%, 50%, 48%, and 52%, respectively. Significant predictors of inferior OS and PFS on multivariate analysis were active disease status at HCT and decreased PS. AITL was associated with significantly reduced relapse risk and better PFS compared with PTCL-NOS. Allo-HCT can provide durable PFS in patients with mature T-cell lymphoma (TCL). Outcomes of haplo-HCT were comparable to those of matched donor allo-HCT

Relationship of the SITLESS intervention on medication use in community-dwelling older adults: An exploratory study
Background: Sedentary behavior (SB) and physical activity (PA) interventions in older adults can improve health outcomes. Problems related with aging include prevalent comorbidity, multiple non-communicable diseases, complaints, and resulting polypharmacy. This manuscript examines the relationship between an intervention aiming at reducing SB on medication patterns.
Method: This manuscript presents a local sub-analysis of the SITLESS trial data on medication use. SITLESS was an exercise referral scheme (ERS) enhanced by self-management strategies (SMS) to reduce SB in community-dwelling older adults. We analyzed data from the ERS + SMS, ERS and usual care (UC) groups. Patient medication records were available at baseline and at the end of the intervention (4-month period) and were analyzed to explore the effect of SITLESS on medication patterns of use.
Result: A sample of 75 participants was analyzed, mostly older overweight women with poor body composition scores and mobility limitations. There was a significant reduction of 1.6 medicines (SD = 2.7) in the ERS group (p < 0.01), but not in the UC or ERS + SMS groups. Differences were more evident in medicines used for short periods of time.
Conclusion: The findings suggest that an exercise-based program enhanced by SMS to reduce SB might influence medication use for acute conditions but there is a need to further investigate effects on long-term medicine use in older adults
